The new Ithaca's are made in Sandusky, Ohio and IMO are maybe a little better than the originals thanks to CNC machine tools and being made by people who care. My thoughts are that the gun now shows the handling and use that your Dad put on it, I would leave those on the gun. I don't have my list of manufacturing dates for the M37 handy but I would guess your gun was made somewhere in the 1950's.Īs for rebluing it. You'd have to try some to see how and where it shoots and how tight the groups are. You probably could use the barrel that's on it to shoot slugs. The Deerslayer model has either a 20 or 26 inch barrel and a front and rear sight would be fitted to the barrel. That barrel was fitted to that receiver and very likely not interchangeable with any other. People say that it was a mid production change dark to light. However, I've found several other "net nerds" who have said the same. I'm hoping there is and maybe he wasn't the right person to ask.
